Center-back and defensive midfielder from Vienna, Virginia, Julia Leas is a versatile and dynamic player who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and technical ability throughout her career, excelling at both the collegiate and professional levels. 

 

Leas joins the Montréal Roses after a successful stint with Swedish club Vittsjö GIK in the Damallsvenskan. Signing with Vittsjö in early 2024, she quickly made an impact, scoring in her professional debut during the Swedish Cup. Throughout the season, she became a consistent presence in the starting lineup, making 24 league appearances and scoring two goals. Her strong performances helped solidify her reputation as a reliable and intelligent player capable of influencing games from both midfield and defense. 

 

Before turning professional, the 23-year-old was a standout at Georgetown University, where she was a five-year starter and a key figure in the Hoyas’ midfield and defense. Over 100 career appearances, she recorded 16 goals and 16 assists while leading the program to four consecutive Big East Conference championships. Her individual accolades included two First Team All-American selections (2022, 2023) and multiple BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year honors. She was also a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist in both 2022 and 2023, recognizing her among the best collegiate players in the country. Additionally, her dedication to academics earned her Academic All-America honors and the BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in 2022. 

 

Leas' journey to professional soccer began in Vienna, Virginia, where she was a dominant force at James Madison High School. Over four years, she scored 71 goals and led her team to state semifinal and runner-up finishes. As a two-year captain, she was named Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019, further highlighting her talent and leadership. She also played club soccer for McLean Soccer, where she helped her team reach the ECNL National Finals and was recognized as an ECNL All-American. 

 

With a strong foundation built through her youth and collegiate career, Julia has continued her upward trajectory in professional soccer. Her blend of skill, intelligence, and determination makes her a valuable asset, and she remains focused on making an impact with the Roses.
